There are a number of ways to ‘deaden’ noise in a room, you won’t get rid of the sound entirely but you can reduce the impact it has on the environment by taking simple but effective measures. We’ve highlighted some of the easier options for sound deadening, try these tips if your room reverberates noise.

Use thicker carpet: A premium quality carpet will absorb some of the noise generated within a room so that’s not a bad place to start. If your home has exposed flooring try laying a few feature rugs on the floor, reduce the bareness to prevent sound resonating off the floor. Either way, make sure your floor has some type of covering if sound is a bit of a problem.

Pad the room with furniture: Large sofas, comfy chairs and padded furniture in general is useful for absorbing sound. The emptier the room the more the noise will be noticeable, prevent this by filling the room with furniture items. You don’t have to fill every nook and cranny, just make a conscious effort to tastefully furnish the room with features that will help with sound insulation.

Hang heavy curtains: Block sound around the window with feature curtains, add a valance to further reduce the noise. Thick curtains are really useful for deadening a room, they’ll absorb tons of sound and the thicker the curtains are the more effective they will be. Fill the frame with a feature set of curtains, you should notice the difference straight away.

Invest in a few wall features: Another way to stop sound ‘bouncing’ off blank walls is to use wall hangings such as large canvas prints or try heavy textured wall paper instead. They’ll add an extra acoustic layer, look great and deaden sound at the same time, why not give them a try?
